Why I ride for Team CRI

COMMUNITY RESEARCH INITIATIVE (CRI) is an independent, nonprofit, community-based organization dedicated to leading the way in HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C clinical research; ensuring access to lifesaving medications and health insurance coverage for Massachusetts residents in need who are HIV-positive, at risk for HIV, have tuberculosis, or who have other infectious diseases; and disseminating state-of-the-art treatment information and education about how to access and maintain health insurance and health benefits coverage for people in need.

We envision that safe and effective treatments and lifesaving drugs and health insurance are available to all people living with HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases.

During these unprecedented times, CRI has managed to extend coverage and reduce barriers to much needed care for our clients and study participants. However, due to many people being laid off or furloughed during this time we are seeing an increase in the number of clients with no insurance. Funds raised through Harbor to the Bay will allow us to stay on top of the increased demand on our programs.

Last year, CRI's riders raised more than $66,754. 

CRI helped more than 9,000 clients and paid for 120,400 prescriptions in 2019. Our research team conducted 7 clinical trials.

Twenty Years and Counting... Many of you here in Massachusetts might not know I am a cancer survivor. In fact, this September will mark twenty years since my non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis. For those who lived through it with me, you have heard it all before so you can stop reading now and just donate. In the spring of 2001, I went to the doctor to see what was wrong with me. I hadn't been feeling quite right for a while and just thought I had a sinus infection. My doctor agreed with me and put me on antibiotics. A week later, I had an allergic reaction to the medication and was told to stop taking it. I felt a bit better and so I just went on with my life. After another month, my tonsils started to swell up and my ears plugged up. I went back to the doctor who then decided I had tonsillitis. I was put on another set of antibiotics which I also caus...

Let's Somersize!

We decided to give Suzanne a try. It's a pretty easy diet really. Her concept is you can eat pretty much what you want as long as you combine or don't combine certain foods. For example, you can eat carbs with vegetables or you can eat protein with vegetables but you can't eat protein and carbs together. It has to do with how your body breaks down the different types of foods. You can eat fruit, but only by itself and on an empty stomach (45 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after). She has a list of what she calls "funky foods" that you are supposed to stay away from (white flour, processed sugars, vegetables high in sugar like carrots). At least until you reach your goal weight and then you can treat yourself I guess. The one thing we are refusing to do is cut out caffeine. She wants you to stick to decaf and I won't do it! She eats like a pig. I'm serious, you should see the amount of food she has on her "sample menu." It's ridiculous. She ...
